Brighter
- Installation
2011
'Brighter' is a series of installations at Sommerloch Festival, Wuppertal Germany 2011
'Brighter' is a project of multiple installations that I participated in a festival 'Sommerloch 2011'. Each installations have a same impetus and concept, "Brighter lights and Brighter perspectives". It is presented in a abandoned factory building.
Window projection tries to visualize another dimension of perceiving spaces. The installation is about projecting outside view of window onto a wall in a gallery space. The actual windows are sealed with opague curtains, and a lighting aims sealed window from the inside of the gallery. Also the projection screen over the facing wall in the room shows the opposite side of the windows. The outside view is generated by amplifying brightness and multiplying shadow, the overlayed reality.
The Projection at the door frame which doesn't have a door, shows one's perception of reality. The installation guides a path of one's perception in a limited sense of Space. Eyes give a sense of realizing spaces, but only with the light. Thus, one's appearance reveals itself from the darkness, then faces its reflectivity. The visual is projected over sealed door frame with a transparent plastic. As the other side of transparent screen is brighter than inside of the screen. The user hardly sees through the transparent screen, also sees hallucinated self image in the middle of door frame. Two identical chairs located at the each side of doorframe confuses the user’s understanding on dimensional existence. in between two chairs facing each other, one's visual perception challenges one's perspective too. And the reflection becomes a discovery by having a seat under the light, a path to find one's perspective in 'reality'.
Photo archive shows the reality in a sense of overlayed light and shadows.
The Lighting installation aims to show the relationships in between human interactions on lights. A yellow chalk powder is used to visualizes the trace of Sunlight. The light and shadow is not just generated by the lighting and the object. In this installation, it is a record of relationships on the light.
And I did put yellow chalks around the installation. I was able to see that the people realizes the use of yellow chalks and manifestations of their perspectives.
Human's own perspectives are constantly challenged by endless encounters. And the time is limited to explore unlimited possible interpretation. However, it is not a loss of information in our experience, it is just failed to discover. By revealing own interest to access a crossing of modularity that appears encountered, we could explore the path of one's perspective and to another.
